“This would not have been possible without Scott Barrett’s help. His guidance throughout this process helped my daughter find the “right fit” both academically and athletically.”

This letter is to recommend Scott Barrett and BAC. My daughter is a talented multi-sport athlete with collegiate potential in two sports. Having been a collegiate athlete and having two brothers who also competed in the Big 10, I was familiar with the recruiting process. However, as my daughter’s high school career progressed, it became evident that the recruiting process of girls would be very different. In addition to deciding which sport she wished to pursue, we found that recruiting budgets for non-revenue sports were limited.
We began this process early, after Jordan’s sophomore year, and this was an important decision. The extra time allowed Scott to complete a thorough evaluation for both sports. This also allowed us to identify schools early on that fit her academic and athletic profile. The extra time also allowed us to monitor different athletic programs for stability, facility improvement, and coaching changes. Scott Barrett’s guidance and contacts allowed us to compile an extensive list of schools from which to pick. This early interest created increased “market value” as Jordan’s athletic accomplishments multiplied. We were invited to attend “Junior Day” activities at several Big 10 universities, and these visits kept Jordan’s name at or near the top of recruiting lists at these institutions. As her Junior year came to an end, she had developed a clear idea of where she would attend college and which sport she would pursue. This plan allowed Jordan to make an early verbal commitment to Ohio State, and choose from a scholarship pool that had not been committed to other athletes in her class. She is now enjoying her senior year without the pressure of constant recruiting calls and unproductive visits.
After a two year process and hundreds of letters and e-mail contacts from schools in the Big 10, Big 12, SEC, MAC, Big East, ACC and Atlantic 10, Jordan has verbally accepted a generous scholarship offer to swim at Ohio State. This would not have been possible without Scott Barrett’s help. His guidance throughout this process helped my daughter find the “right fit” both academically and athletically. We are grateful for his guidance and counsel in a confusing and complicated process. I unconditionally recommend his services and our family is thankful that we’ve found a friend along the way.

“Mr. Barrett does athletic counseling with high school athletes that way it should be done.”

I am currently the Head Girl’s Basketball Coach at Greenville Senior High School, and I am writing a letter of recommendation for Scott Barrett of Barrett Athletic Counseling. Over the course of two years, Mr. Barrett worked closely with my best player to find to find both the level of play and college that would work best for her.
At first, I was hesitant to get involved in the process. I was afraid he was just another company trying to promote an athlete ad do things that I felt I could already accomplish for my player. Mr. Barrett made repeated contacts with me to make sure I had a good understanding of his reason for being in business, and to make sure I would be a part of the process. He made sure I was involved in the evaluation process of the athlete, and I even was part of two sit-down meetings/evaluations with Br. Barrett, my player, and her parents.
In the beginning I was hesitant and over-protective of my basketball player and her family. I was afraid the process was going to be a waste of time and money. Instead, I came away with the understanding that Mr. Barrett does athletic counseling with high school athletes that way it should be done. He is extremely knowledgeable in the sport of basketball, and he is able to evaluate a payer according to many different categories in a professional manner. He is honest. He really doesn’t just tell the athlete and his or her parents what they want to hear. He tells them the truth. His main concern is placing the student-athlete with the best college and level of play that will fit him or her. He is a class act, and he knows what he is doing. He truly has the best interest of the student-athlete at heart.

I have been the Athletic Director at Ursuline Academy since 1994. Over the years, I have been approached by numerous services about speaking with our students/athletes and their families. Based on my evaluation and experience our administration decided not to allow recruiting services to make formal presentations to our families at school functions.
In August of 2000, I had the good fortune of meeting Mr. Scott Barrett of Barrett Athletic Consulting. Scott was working with one of our families and they contacted me about him. They had been very skeptical of such services but after meeting with Scott they felt confident in his ability. It was Scott’s personal but very professional presentation of himself and his company that allowed me the opportunity to see the merit in his service.
Scott Barrett is very passionate about his work. He is honest in his assessment of talent and he is devoted to the needs of the student-athlete and their family. Scott seeks out the help of many noted professionals and coaches who assist in his very detailed evaluation process. The most important feature of Scott’s company is that he understands the importance and benefit of a good education. Unlike the majority of recruiting services, Scott Barrett’s primary focus is what is best for each individual family. I am extremely grateful to Scott for his persistence and devotion to our families.
This year I invited Scott to attend our Fall Sports Parent Night. He drove over 3 ½ hours to speak to our families for less than 10 minutes. Scott has agreed to be a part of our three seasonal meetings next year. To date, Scott has worked with five of our families who all are very pleased with his effort and the relationship they have developed.
It is my sincere hope that other schools and athletic administrators will allow Scott Barrett the opportunity to present his program. I will always be grateful to the McAfee’s for bringing Scott, Ursuline Academy and myself together. It has been a pleasure working with him and I look forward to the continued growth of our relationship.

When Scott Barrett came into my office back in 1998, inquiring about local and area athletes that I could refer him to for his consultant business, I was reluctant to give him any names. I’ve been contacted many times by “recruiting services” over the years that want parents to shell out big bucks and had been turned off to these sales pitches. However, remembering Scott’s own athletic career (particularly as a catcher), my wife and I decided to sign up with him regarding our son, Tim, who at the time was a sophomore catcher.
The main difference between Barrett’s Athletic Consulting and those other services is that Scott actually spends time with the athlete – gets to know them as individuals, and in our case, work with Tim to improve his catching/hitting skills. Throughout our three years, Scott has always kept in contact with Tim, not only about baseball, but also about the academic side as well. Barrett Athletic Consulting doesn’t promise athletic scholarships for the athletes, and we knew that going into the agreement. Scott is very direct, open, and honest when evaluating his clients and their possible level of play at the next level.
Tim was injured in the summer prior to his senior season and unable to play, thus limiting his exposure to college scouts. However, together with Barrett Athletic Counseling, we made a video to introduce Tim and his talents. With this video and Scott’s evaluation letter, we received many calls/letters from schools within 3-4 hours of home. We have found that Barrett Athletic Consulting has a good relationship with many colleges as the respect Scott’s honesty regarding possible recruits.
Tim has now signed with a Division II school and is excited to begin this next phase of his academic/athletic career. I feel Scott Barrett has been very helpful to Tim, not only as a baseball player, but also off the field as well. The “personal” touch he puts with his consulting is what makes his service worthwhile.

“Scott’s knowledge of the college coaches and procedures to take in setting up appointments/interviews and supplying them with data were invaluable. We would never have known what to do or how to address these coaches.”

We are taking this opportunity to portray our opinions and thoughts in regards to Barrett Athletic Consulting and our experience we incurred with our son.
A longtime friend and fellow baseball coach recommended Scott Barrett to us. We had heard of Scott’s name previously but being rather conservative people we are, we kind of balked at the thought of hiring a “recruiting” guru to help our son. We always felt that if our son was talented enough ad stayed healthy if it was meant to be, it was meant to be and things would fall into place.
When our deadline was quickly approaching and interested scouts/colleges were starting to emerge, we were unsure of how to handle the situation. Scott’s knowledge of the college coaches and procedures to take in setting up appointments/interviews and supplying them with data were invaluable. We would never have known what to do or how to address these coaches. He urged us to take control and we followed his instructions. His training and written aids helped us through the process and helped our son think through what he really wanted out of college in addition to the athletic aspect. Scott helped our son mature and grow into a more responsible individual by putting our son’s future into his own hands. Our son was trained in handling interviews and directing questions at coaches and putting his own words that he wanted his future to entail. Scott’s goal was always to find the best fit for our son.
Scott’s aggressive style aided us with our son obtaining a scholarship to play baseball at Ohio State University, a dream our son has always had. God willing; he will be playing baseball for OSU in the fall of 2004. The timely fashion in which the recruiting process occurred will allow our son to focus on football, basketball and academics his senior year, knowing that OSU is where he is bound.
Scott is an honest and hardworking individual and was always there when we needed him, he worked for us and we called the shots. Our experience was well worth it and we would recommend his services.

I personally know Scott and feel he has a very good understanding of the national recruiting scene. He has spent years working with professional people and I believe his evaluation skills are solid. Scott serves a very important need in the recruiting market place, he is credible and aids coaches in the recruiting and evaluation process. There is a need for legitimate evaluators to assist my staff in finding quality players that may go unnoticed.
Without question, Scott has the credibility, honesty and raw evaluating skills to help coaches at all levels find talent. He provides a needed service to parents, educating families about the process. Our staff will utilize Scott’s ability to help us in the evaluation process if needed.

It is my pleasure to write in support of Barrett Athletic Counseling and specifically Scott Barrett. I have had the opportunity to work closely with Scott during the past year.
Scott’s background as a Division I athlete a professional player has provided him with the experience that is needed to make accurate assessments of athletic ability. BAC provides objective analysis and credible evaluation. Each player profile evaluation that I have received from Scott has been clear, accurate and very informative. Scott “speaks the language” of the college coach in providing detailed information about a prospect.
Beyond the written evaluation and video production I have been in regular contact with Scott regarding the players we are interested in. Not only is Scott available to speak with – he takes the initiative to contact me about prospects and follow-up about them. I have spent countless hours on the phone discussing prospects with Scott. The information he provides is invaluable in making decisions about a prospect.
Each student-athlete that has come to visit Clarion University has been very well prepared for their visit. Meeting with well-prepared prospects makes the visit more enjoyable and informative for all involved. I have been impressed with the quality of the individuals that I have had the opportunity to meet from BAC during the recruiting process.
It is clear that Barrett Athletic Consulting is looking to find the best “fit” for each of their players and that they care about their long term welfare. BAC takes into consideration not only athletic needs of the student-athlete but academic and social components of the collegiate experience when guiding their clients.

It gives me great pleasure to write this letter of recommendation for Scott Barrett. It is easy to help someone like Scott since he is always willing to go out of his way for others. Especially when it concerns baseball!
I have known Scott since the Fall of 1991. That was his first year at Purdue and my first year as Head Baseball Coach here at Purdue. As a player, Scott demonstrated a relentless work ethic and a very powerful desire to succeed. He became a respected leader within our program soon after his arrival.
After the completion of his competitive career, Scott has put in countless hours trying to help young players reach their highest potential in this challenging game of baseball. Scott has an advanced knowledge of many of the nuances of baseball today. His knowledge and understanding of Major College Recruiting are a very valuable asset. As a Division I Baseball Coach I receive many calls and letters from parents, coaches, pro scouts and the like that do not have the understanding or the ability to communicate exactly what I as a College Coach need to hear about a particular player. Scott knows that it takes more than just ability to make it to the top in baseball. Having played at the High School, Major College and Professional level gives Scott an accurate perspective of how much hard work and “baseball ability” it takes to reach one’s potential.
Scott is an excellent communicator and his enthusiasm is undeniable. He has the ability to see what a person CAN as well as cannot do, and is not afraid to tell someone what they can improve on. I believe this type of honest evaluation is very important, and quite frankly a refreshing approach in athletics today.
Scott Barrett is a “top notch” individual with personal integrity beyond reproach. I give Scott Barrett my highest recommendation.

I’m happy to recommend Scott Barrett Athletic Consulting to you to assist you in your college search process. To be completely honest with you, when a friend of ours hired Scott for their child, I felt they were just wasting money. I felt they were taking the easy way out and that if a person was willing to put a significant amount of time and effort into a scholarship search, they could do just as good of a job and for a lot less money. My son is an excellent golfer and has been his entire high school career. He lettered as a freshman on a State ranked team and his credentials just got better as his high school career went on. The summer after his junior year, he was named Ohio Player of the Year on a State Junior program. During the winter of his junior year my wife and I sent letters with his resume and a video to lots of college golf coaches. We were told that no coaches could call prior to July 1 after his junior year, but we figured after July 1, the phone would be ringing every night. This kid led his high school team to two consecutive state tournament titles and broke virtually every school scoring record while doing so. We felt the coaches after seeing his resume would be drooling!
Boy were we surprised! We heard from almost no one!
It was at this time, we decided maybe we’d better talk to Scott again. After several very frank (and Scott is certainly frank) conversations, we decided to hire Scott, and are we glad we did! What we found from Scott was that coaches pay little attention to letters from kids or parents. Everyone thinks their kid is the best and coaches get hundreds of letters like that. Scott also told us that if Andy wanted to play Division I golf; those coaches really don’t care about local and state recognition. It has to be National. They want to know how these kids compare against the better players in the country. With that information we all went to work. We developed a more National schedule for Andy for that summer and Scott went to work, with Andy’s counsel, seeking out colleges. Scott again was very frank with us saying Andy may have to consider Division II or III but that he would work very hard to give him as many options as possible.
The end of the story is, thanks to Andy working hard and having a very nice summer and Scott working VERY hard with coaches, Andy signed a National Letter of Intent to attend a Division I school with a very strong academic reputation which also happened to have one of the better Men’s golf programs in the country. The scholarship that he received were far more than we had ever hoped for. We have to give Scott a large amount of credit for what was accomplished. Scott was in touch with us almost daily with updates of what he had done that day, advice for us, and overall support for the process. Believe it or not, it became quite hectic with the coaches calling, etc. right up to signing date. There is no way that would have happened without Scott. There is no doubt in my mind we more than recovered the cost of Scott’s fees in Andy’s first year alone. Plus, he will be at an institution that he very likely would not have been at without Scott.
Scott Barrett is money well spent. We highly recommend him.

Scott Barrett saw our daughter, Kate, the summer of 1998 at the Ohio All-Star softball game and sent her information on his services. Frankly, her father and I thought this whole thing was a sham. Without our knowledge, Kate emailed Scott. He followed through on her contact and an appointment with our family was set up. We thought this would be a good lesson for Kate to learn – how to spot a wheeler dealer.
Well, Kate’s father and I were the ones that learned the lesson. Scott said his services was NOT a recruiting service, but one that aided the student athlete though the process of choosing a college. He would work as an evaluator of her athletic abilities and be a moderator with the coaches.
Scott has followed through with all his promises beyond our expectations. Kate had received many letters from colleges in the past year, but now they were coming from the softball department, not just a mass mailing from the school in general. Scott has helped Kate organize her letters, set up a database and aided her in choosing the best colleges to pursue. He has driven to Cincinnati to see her team play, not knowing is she would be in that particular game. He had one-on-one workouts with her to improve her game.
Scott has been extremely truthful with Kate on her abilities – the good and the need for improvement. Sometimes he has been hard on her, but Kate took this as a challenge to improve her game. It’s not always easy to hear that you’re not the best in everything. Kate took Scott’s comments and has worked hard to show him that she is a D-1 player.
Kate signed a letter of intent to play softball for the University of Toledo Rockets. This was Kate’s first choice in colleges. Scott helped to make her dream come true. Scott’s counseling certainly played a vital role in the process. He was there for our family each and every step of the way. We would call with questions and Scott would spend the time and give encouragement in the difficult process of choosing a college. If he wasn’t available at that time of our call, within the hour, Scott returned our call and was always ready to help and give advice.
We have a younger daughter who is also an athlete. When the time comes, we will be happy to have Scott assist us again. His enthusiasm, his caring for the students, and his love for what he is doing is an inspiration to our family. Through the confusing process of choosing a college, Scott has truly been a mentor.

Scott Barrett of BAC approached me many times in the past several years about working with our athletes at Bryan High School. I continually turned down Scott and BAC due to negative experiences with recruiting services in the past. I assumed that BAC would be a waste of time and money, like most other recruiting services. In the Spring of 2002, an athlete at Bryan High School was in a position to continue his athletic career at the collegiate level. Unfortunately, I did not have the time to give this athlete the attention and exposure necessary. With hesitation, I agreed to have Scott Barrett and Scott Slee meet this the athlete and his family. It turned out to be a terrific decision.
Scott and BAC is not a “recruiting service” that simply mails out letters. The amount of time and personal attention they spend with the individual athlete and the family is incredible. The number one concern of BAC is to place the athlete in the best athletic and educational situation as possible. Scott was honest, up front and diligent in his efforts. Never once did I feel Scott was not doing the utmost to provide the best opportunity for the athlete and the family. There is no doubt in my mind that Scott will use a different approach with each athlete to ensure he is doing what is best for each individual. In my opinion, this is what separates BAC from everyone else; they are genuinely concerned about the athlete as a person.
As a coach and athletic director, the complete trust of the parents and athletes is the most important thing I have. This is not easy to achieve. It is only attained by constant hard work, honest words and decisions made with integrity. Consequently, I will not attend my name to anything which could corrode this. With that said, I would not hesitate to recommend Scott Barrett, Scott Slee or BAC to any athlete or parent. They are truly a class operation, which has the best interests of the student-athlete in mind.

This letter is being written in recommendation of Barrett Athletic Counseling. I have known Scott Barrett personally for five years and followed Scott through his college and professional baseball years before that time. My relationship with Scott has grown in the past five years while coaching baseball at Defiance High School. Not only has some of our players used the service Scott offers but Scott also gives them personal time with developing their skills in baseball. Scott spent many hours working with my son on his catching skills and is a major reason he is playing college baseball at a top notch division III program at Wooster.
Scott and I are on the same age as far as the evaluation process of baseball players. Through our affiliation of baseball, we have discovered we are in this for the same reason – we are here to prepare high school players to play at the next level and help them find the best college/university for their skill level. I feel Scott epitomizes the traits of hard work, loyalty, dedication, and most of all, knowledge for the game of baseball.
I sincerely feel that these characteristics that made his successful as a student athlete at Purdue have carried over into the resent day of his new business. In communicating with college coaches, there has been a trust factor established between the two. This is very important to the business Scott Barrett has developed.
Scott is a very outgoing person and has a great ability to communicate with his clients as well as their high school coaches and potential college coaches. His organizational skills and willingness to work together to help student athletes is what has proven to me he will have a very efficient business.

Our family has found Scott Barrett to be an enthusiastic and helpful asset. Scott provided us with a knowledge of both the recruiting process and college profiles. He was an unfailing supporter of our daughter and one of the few who could make her laugh after her second ACL tear in less than a year. Now that Mollie has once again injured her knee, we again turned to Scott for support and insight and he has come through. He still made her laugh but his questions were challenging and on-target and caused her to think through her options.
I personally feel that Scott was honest in his assessments of our daughter’s expectations and desires. He provided us with insights of one who understands athletics and competition. Though sometimes blunt, Scott was open, and clear about his intentions and working goals. He followed through on his statements and we never felt reassured to respond in a particular way.
If your family includes an athlete who would like to play a collegiate sport, we recommend Scott Barrett as a beneficial participant in the decision-making process. He demonstrated integrity and good judgement. As my husband and I had somewhat different ideas in response to the recruiting scenario, Scott provided us with a knowledgeable basis for discussion. We enjoyed his humor and positive attitude. His enthusiasm and good spirits are contagious.
Scott is solid; we could, and did, confide in him. We feel as if we have invested wisely in our daughter’s future and appreciate Scott’s knowledge, counsel and optimism. We also feel that we have made a friend who truly cares about our daughter’s well-being and who will be a part of her support group for many years.

“His guidance and knowledge proved invaluable. Also, his network of contacts was a tremendous resource that we would not have been privileged to had we acted on our own behalf. ”

We were most likely right where you are now, when we were contacted by Scott concerning our daughter, Lauren, and her athletic abilities. We were skeptical and apprehensive, as to whether we needed any help, as she was generating a lot of interest on her own in three different sports.
After having gone through the process, we are confident that Scott had a huge and immediate impact. His guidance and knowledge proved invaluable. Also, his network of contacts was a tremendous resource that we would not have been privileged to had we acted on our own behalf. Scott was able to quickly establish meetings with coaches in both sports Lauren was considering, at her desired colleges. He helped us as parents, prepare for the meetings – and Lauren in every capacity.
Scott is very hard-working, energetic, enthusiastic, and always has the student-athlete’s best interest at heart. We were also impressed at what a remarkable job he did of getting to know Lauren on a personal level. This proved very beneficial in the selection process to ensure a great fit for her personality, academically and socially, as well as athletically.
We obviously highly recommend Scott, and feel confident Lauren would not be where she is today, in a Division I Volleyball program she loves at her school of choice, without his input and guidance. He was then, and remains now, a phone call or e-mail away with any questions or concerns we may have. Scott, and his family, are good friends and blessings in our life. We are very grateful and thankful we utilized his services. Please feel free to contact us at any time if you would like any further elaboration or information.

“Working with Scott allows you and your son or daughter to manage the recruitment process and make decisions on your timetable. ”

This letter is generated to formally recommend the services of Barrett Athletic Consulting. As parents with no experience in college athletic recruiting, we signed with Scott Barrett in the Spring of 2000 (Angela’s sophomore year) to assist and advise us in Angela’s recruitment process.
We feel that signing with Scott, was the best thing we did for our daughter. Scott has been a major source of support and encouragement for Angela throughout the process, providing services in such a way that we definitely received much more than the basics outlines in our letter of understanding.
Many parents have questioned us as to why we sought assistance from Scott when so many opportunities would have been available to Angela anyway. Working with Scott allows you and your son or daughter to manage the recruitment process and make decisions on your timetable. Without Scott’s assistance you are forced into waiting and speculating on the true interest level in your son or daughter. Scott provides coaches with an unbiased opinion regarding an athlete’s abilities and can appropriately relay your interest level. Angela ended up with over 100 Division I schools interested in recruiting her. This high level of interest would not have been possible without Scott’s assistance.
At Scotts recommendation, Angela established relationships with coaches via written correspondence and e-mails in the early stages of her recruitment. Rather than waiting for official visits, Angela took numerous unofficial visits to schools in various parts of the country. Scott was very instrumental in helping to get visits set up and served as our communication link during the period of time when coaches were not permitted to call us back. All of his preliminary work paid ff. When July 1st arrived this year and coaches could begin calling, Angela had a short list of schools that she was interested in and focused her efforts on working with these schools to determine her scholarship potential. Several home visits from coaches were made in early July. At the end of July, Angela made a verbal commitment to a very reputable SEC Division I school and she will sign for a full-ride athletic scholarship in distance running during the early signing period in November. By making an early decision, Angela will be able to enjoy her senior year.
We cannot say enough about the commitment and dedication that Scott has for his clients. He truly looks out for their best interest and works endlessly on the behalf. We will forever be grateful for everything he has done for Angela. Please feel free to call or e-mail us for more information.
